Prayer Shawl Ministry

"You created my inmost being and you knit me together in my mother’s womb. For so many marvels and blessings, I thank you; a wonder am I, and all your works are wonders.” Psalm 139

Our group is made up of caring people who craft shawls laden with prayers. The shawls are given to someone special as a loving reminder of God’s presence and the congregation’s prayers. Quiet prayers and busy hands create a prayer shawl that brings physical warmth and spiritual comfort. A beautiful tapestry of love is created as hands work and workers pray. The peace that only God can provide fills those who create. Prayers of hope mingle with the strands of yarn and cloth. The love of Jesus is expressed through a caring embrace, the embrace of a prayer shawl wrapped around the shoulders of another.

The prayer we pray as we create a shawl:

In the name of the Father; the Creator, the Giver of Life, the Holder of time; In the name of Jesus: the Saviour, the Healer, the Lifter of Pain; in the name of the Spirit: the Comforter, the Consoler, the Sustainer of Life. This shawl is created as a mantle of caring, healing, and protection. It is mantle of wholeness and strength to enfold, encircle, and empower you. May this prayer shawl warm and comfort you when you are weak and weary.

O Christ, who healed the broken in body and spirit, be with all who suffer today. Be with the doctors, nurses, technicians, and all that care for the sick. Be with the families and friends of those who love and comfort the sick. May your gentle yet strong touch reach out to heal all the broken and hurting people and places in our world.

I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
