Strengthening Community

Our community extends beyond our doors. Volunteers extend Christian compassion and helpfulness to persons of all ages in need of aid in body or soul throughout our local community.

Hospice Cleveland County
Throughout the year, Ascension members purchase Hearts for Hospice and support annual fundraisers that benefit hospice. Several members volunteer in the administrative offices, sewing for Memory Bear workshops or visiting patients.  In Spring 2017, we hosted the semi-annual memorial service for families of recent patients. Monthly throughout 2018 we collected items from the wish list for Hospice Cleveland County as an anniversary year project. Beginning in 2019 Women of the ELCA volunteers are baking cookies in the Hospice kitchen for patients and their families. How comforting is the scent of freshly baked cookies!
"God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday
This day of service began in 2013 in celebration of the ELCA's 25th anniversary. Annually, congregations serve in their communities, emphasizing our role as God's hands and feet at work in the world. In 2014, Ascension volunteers participated in a nursery workday and completed landscaping projects at the local elementary school which is one of our partners in ministry
